Nintendo was on top of the market with their NES console, but they banked on it for too long. Sega hit the market with the more powerful Genesis and was gobbling up marketshare. Nintendo had to release new hardware or face irrelevancy. The follow up was named the Super Nintendo and it was more powerful than the competition. Not only that but they had major third party support from developers who held back with Sega, and they had an incredible library right out of the gates. Eventually they took back their position as the market leader. This is my favorite video game console of all time and the one that solidified gaming as a lifelong hobby for me.
