Sega Master System Review Index

The Sega Master System console with one controller attached.

The Sega Master System was Sega’s main 8-bit console during the 80s. They were mostly an arcade developer and therefore there are a whole lot of coin-op downports for the system. These were okay but Sega’s strong point on this platform was their original software. Hits such as Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star kept them relevant despite slipping sales numbers and an unstoppable competitor. Long after the Master System was taken off the market in most of the world it still excelled in smaller markets such as Brazil. I never grew up with one, but the Sega Master System has become one of my favorite consoles over time.
