The Wonderswan crystal handheld unit.

Following the failure of the Virtual Boy, designer Gunpei Yokoi left Nintendo and went to Bandai to create a new handheld system that could compete with the Game Boy. This was the Wonderswan. It had a unique design featuring two directional pads, support from big name developers like Capcom and Squaresoft, and made some waves in Japan. It was never released in domestic markets and the looming Game Boy Advance caused most gamers to pass on it. There are still some really cool games that came out for this unique device. It even saw three different hardware iterations!
