Nintendo 64 Review Index

Logo for the Nintendo 64.The Nintendo 64 console.

Nintendo was at the top of the market with the Super Nintendo, and their next console was hyped to no end. It began life as the Ultra 64 and had games unlike what you would see on the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. They had one major misstep however; Nintendo went with cartridges instead of compact discs which were pretty much standard by then. This meant the games had to be smaller, more expensive, and more compressed. At least there were no load times though. It really pushed multiplayer by offering four controller ports right out of the box! The system was a resounding success but caused Nintendo to lose significant marketshare to Sony. This was actually the first home console I bought with my own money.
