The follow-up to their original home console was the PlayStation 2. Sony knew what gamers wanted; they went with the new DVD format to allow for movie playback in the console, and they boasted the most powerful hardware ever created. The system was a huge hit right out of the gates, and eventually the library became one of the very best. Later Sony added a harddrive option and online gaming to the system which kept the momentum going for years to come. The PlayStation 2 is best known for having blockbuster sequels to all the big games that made the original so popular.
