SNK got into the arcade business in a big way. They released their own arcade hardware and were it not for Street Fighter II they would have ruled the fighting game scene. They released a diverse and wide array of different games (mostly fighters) and many third parties were on board. In a move almost unheard of at the time they released a home version of their arcade hardware that played the exact same titles that would eat your quarters! This was the Neo Geo AES. An adapter even allows the coin op cartridges to be used! It’s hefty price tag meant it was only for the rich, but a later CD edition brought the price down. It never gained significant traction but it’s a hugely collectible item these days.
