Nintendo had a big plan to re-capture their lost marketshare, and the Gamecube was it! They finally ditched cartridges but instead of DVDs (which was the standard at the time) they created their own format of mini-disc. It held more than a CD, but far less than a digital video disc. Unfortunately they misread the market and released a purple cube as the console complete with a handle on the back of it. The Nintendo Gamecube was deemed a kid’s toy, and lost even more marketshare to Sony and this time to Microsoft. It’s a great little console that had an amazing library of first and third party hits. It’s a shame it wasn’t better received.
