After more than a decade without giving us a proper update to the Game Boy hardware (no, the color edition doesn’t count) Nintendo finally bit the bullet and released the Game Boy Advance. This monster handheld boasted 32-bits of processing power, a full color screen, and a horizontal alignment like the earlier Game Gear. The problem? The screen wasn’t backlit. This didn’t slow down sales as the GBA quickly became one of the fastest selling pieces of hardware of all time.
